Beijing Subway Map

The Beijing Subway is an urban rail transit system serving Beijing, the capital of the People’s Republic of China. As of December 30, 2023, the Beijing Subway comprises 27 operational lines, including 22 subway lines, one medium-low-speed maglev line, two modern tram lines, and two airport rail lines. This system covers 12 districts within Beijing and Guangyang District in Langfang, Hebei Province, featuring 490 operational stations and a total operating length of 836 kilometers.

As of August 2024, the Beijing Subway ranks as either the longest or the second longest subway system globally in terms of operating mileage. Since 2014, the Beijing Subway has maintained a daily average weekday passenger volume exceeding 10 million. It is one of the primary modes of transportation for Beijing residents and set a record high daily passenger volume of 13.7538 million on July 12, 2019.

Planning for the Beijing Subway began in 1953, with construction starting in 1965. The first line was completed in 1969, making it the first subway system in the Greater China region. Various state-owned or public-private partnership (PPP) enterprises operate different lines within the Beijing Subway system. Notably, Line 4, operated by Beijing MTR Corporation Limited, was the first rail line in mainland China to be constructed and operated under the PPP model. Currently, the Beijing Subway is undergoing extensive expansion, with the total operating mileage expected to reach 1,000 kilometers by the end of 2025.

As of December 2023, the operational lines of the Beijing Subway include Line 1, Line 2, Line 4, Line 5, Line 6, Line 7, Line 8, Line 9, Line 10, Line 11, Line 13, Line 14, Line 15, Line 16, Line 17, Line 19, the Batong Line, the Daxing Line, the Changping Line, the Yizhuang Line, the Fangshan Line, the Yanfang Line, the S1 Line, the Capital Airport Express, the Daxing Airport Express, the Xijiao Line, and the Yizhuang T1 Line, with a total operating length of 836 kilometers and 494 operational stations. The Beijing Subway operates under a system where the infrastructure owner and operating companies are independent entities. Most of the infrastructure is owned by the Beijing Infrastructure Investment Co., Ltd. (known as BII). Multiple companies operate the various lines: Beijing Subway Operation Co., Ltd. operates Lines 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, Batong Line, Yizhuang Line, Changping Line, Fangshan Line, and S1 Line; Beijing MTR Corporation Limited operates Lines 4, 14, 16, 17, and Daxing Line; Beijing Rail Transit Operation and Management Co., Ltd. operates Lines 19, Yanfang Line, and Daxing Airport Express; Beijing Public Transport Tram Co., Ltd. operates the Xijiao Line and Yizhuang T1 Line; and Beijing Capital Metro Line Co., Ltd. operates the Capital Airport Express. All lines operated by different companies are integrated into the Beijing Rail Transit Command Center, managed by BII, which oversees the operation control, dispatch command, and fare collection for the entire network.
